Survivors of a Lying Species

Single Channel Video
8:52 minutes
“Survivors of a Lying Species” makes the futile attempt of understanding my familial history through Nixon’s 1972 visit to China. The absurdity of my quest exemplifies the complexity of making sense of one’s familial past as part of a larger historical context. Through the rubbery skin of a Nixon’s mask and the specter of a colonial past still guiding the present, “Survivors of a Lying Species” tries to embody the questions, contradictions, and complicity of an existence shaped by diasporic migration.
