Colorbound

"Colorbound" is a two-channel video that draws from a chess term that describes pieces that can only ever visit squares of one color, such as a bishop. The video takes place in two locations: The Lacawac Sanctuary in Eastern Pennsylvania and the old Pittsburgh Post-Gazette building. In Lacawac, a lush forest green pervades the landscape, only to be punctured by a red figure. In contrast, the abandoned printing presses in a post-industrial factory show only the ghost of human presence. The scenes are spliced by cuts of monochromatic color field and its matching color name from Sherwin Williams, PPG, and Behr. Without a frame of reference to the origins of the names, the identities of each color exist as foreign characters from another world.
